MIND GAMES

7/27/26

You don't always have to crush the ball to make a difference. Sometimes all it takes is putting it on the ground and being faster than the defense can handle.

That was Trent Beachem's game plan in week eight against Victory 3, and it worked to perfection. Number 10 picked up his first Player of the Week honor of the 2026 season by going 6-for-9 across the doubleheader with 2 RBIs and 5 runs scored — and a lot of those hits weren't rocket shots into the gap. They were the kind of contact that looks routine off the bat, right up until the defense realizes they have to get rid of the ball fast. And more often than not, they couldn't.

Beachem's speed turned ordinary ground balls and soft contact into headaches for the Victory 3 defense all night long. The moment the ball left his bat he was already out of the box and flying down the line, putting pressure on fielders to field cleanly, set their feet, and make a strong throw — all in a split second. When you can do that consistently, you force errors, you beat out throws that should get you, and you turn outs into baserunning opportunities. That's exactly what happened, and it's a skill that doesn't show up cleanly in a box score but absolutely shows up in the outcome of a game.

In game one he was a nightmare from the leadoff spot, going 4-for-6 with 1 RBI and 3 runs scored while playing left center field. Every time he got on base he was a threat, and every time he put the ball in play the defense had to scramble. In game two he kept it going with 2-for-3 and 2 more runs scored, continuing to make things difficult for a defense that never quite figured out how to slow him down.

WFor a Trinity team that has been searching for consistency throughout the 2026 season, having a guy like Beachem at the top of the order who can manufacture runs without needing a perfect pitch to hit is a huge weapon. Not every night is going to produce a highlight reel home run — but speed never has an off night, and Trent Beachem proved that in week eight.
