BRIGHT SPOT

On a night when Trinity's offense struggled to find much of anything, Rafe O'Donnell was just about the only guy who did.

In a tough doubleheader sweep at the hands of St. Peter's, O'Donnell was the lone bright spot in both games — and that's not an exaggeration. He was personally responsible for the only run Trinity scored all night. Both times. In a doubleheader where the final scores read 1-17 and 1-8, that says everything about how dominant St. Peter's was and how hard it was for anyone in the Trinity lineup to get anything going.

In game one, O'Donnell went 2-for-2 with an RBI and capped his night with an inside the park home run — the only run Trinity would score in the entire game. It was a heads-up play that took hustle and awareness on the bases, and in a game that was getting away fast, it was the one moment the Trinity sideline had something to cheer about.

Game two he kept producing, going 2-for-3 with another run scored from his spot at shortstop. Again, the only run Trinity would put on the board all game.

When you zoom out and look at the full picture — 4-for-5 on the night, an inside the park home run, 1 RBI, 2 runs scored, and the sole source of offense for his team across an entire doubleheader — it's hard to argue with giving him the award for the second time this season. In week six he hit a clutch triple to tie the game in the seventh. In week seven he carried the offense by himself on a night when nobody else could get it going. That's back to back weeks of coming up big when it matters.

The manager of this team continues to lead by example, and on a night Trinity would rather forget, number 63 made sure there was at least something worth remembering.
