LOSING STREAK

Not much to sugarcoat here. Trinity dropped both games to St. Peter's this week — 4–11 in Game 1 and 5–19 in Game 2. It was a rough day.

Game 1: Trinity 4, St. Peter's 11

The first game was the more competitive of the two. Trinity actually made a lot of contact — 22 hits as a team — but could only manage 4 runs out of it. That's the kind of day where the ball finds gloves and runners strand on base. Dave Martino went 3-for-3 with 2 doubles and scored twice. Corbin Fallen also went 3-for-3 and drove in 3 of the team's 4 RBIs. Logan Myers, Nick Perella, Trent Beachem, Jim Beatty, and Evan Shearer each had 2 hits. The bats weren't the problem. Game 2: Trinity 5, St. Peter's 19

Game 2 was worse. St. Peter's came out and didn't let up. Trinity's hit total dropped from 22 to 9, and a handful of guys who had solid first games went hitless in the second — Ben Obman, Travis Beachem, Cadin Helfrich, and Evan Shearer among them. Aaron Myers went 2-for-2 with a run scored, Rafe O'Donnell had a triple and a run, and Jim Beatty and Corbin Fallen each added a hit and an RBI. That was mostly it.

The Takeaway

As a team across both games, Trinity hit .525 — 31-for-59. The contact was there. The results weren't. St. Peter's was the better team on this day and they showed it, especially in Game 2. One thing worth noting: Logan Myers stepped on the mound for the first time ever — about an hour of prep before first pitch — and gave it a shot when the team needed someone to step up. That counts for something even in a tough week.
