TRINITY STARTS 2-0

5/23/26

Trinity had themselves a night, taking down First Baptist in both games of their doubleheader games by scores of 14-6 and 6-2. The offense was clicking on all cylinders, and the team came away with a clean sweep to start their season with a record of 2-0.

Game 1: Trinity 14, First Baptist 6

Trinity wasted no time making a statement in the opener, pouring on 14 runs in a game that was never really in doubt. The bats were hot across the board, but a few guys stood out in a big way. Dave Martino was the story of the night at the plate. The guy was nearly untouchable, going 5-for-6 across the two games with a .833 average and 3 RBIs. He crossed the plate 4 times — more than anyone else on the roster — and his OPS of 1.690 tells you everything you need to know about how locked in he was. Rafe O'Donnell also had a huge night, finishing with 4 hits including a double and a triple. He drove in 4 runs total and posted an OPS over 1.800. Big game from him when the team needed production. Evan Shearer kept it going too, going 4-for-6 with 2 RBIs and 2 runs scored. He had one of the better nights in the lineup and was a big part of why Trinity kept the pressure on all game long. The offense as a whole finished the doubleheader with a .413 team batting average, 31 hits, and 36 total bases — numbers that show this wasn't just a one-inning explosion. They hit well from top to bottom.

Game 2: Trinity 6, First Baptist 2

If the first game was about letting it fly, the second game was more about keeping it clean. Trinity locked things down and held First Baptist to just 2 runs while their offense did just enough to get the job done. Brock Beachem stepped up on the mound, throwing all 14 innings across the doubleheader. He gave up 8 hits and allowed 3 earned runs, finishing with a solid 1.929 ERA for the series. He didn't have a ton of run support to work with in game two, but he kept First Baptist off the board when it mattered and did his job. At the plate in game two, Cadin Helfrich made the most of his at-bats, finishing the night with 3 hits including 2 doubles and 2 RBIs. His .833 slugging percentage showed he wasn't just making contact — he was doing damage. Nick Perella also had a nice showing in his first series with Trinity, going 2-for-4 with a walk and putting together some quality at-bats. Kaleb Young and Trent Beachem each went 3-for-6 on the night and drove in a combined 4 runs between the two games.

By The Numbers:
Player: AVG: H: RBI: R:
Dave Martino .833 5 3 4
Rafe O'Donnell .667 4 4 2
Evan Shearer .667 4 2 2
Cadin Helfrich .500 3 2 2
Trent Beachem .500 3 0 1
Kaleb Young .500 3 2 1
Brock Beachem .429 3 3 1
Nick Perella .500 2 0 2

All in all, it was a great night of softball for Trinity. The offense was consistent, the pitching held up, and the team took care of business in both games. A sweep is a sweep, and Trinity earned every bit of this one.
